Mike Van Arsdale Joins the Lion's Den

Lion’s Den Scottsdale has officially announced the addition of UFC Veteran Mike Van Arsdale to the facilities elite team of instructors. Van Arsdale, who relocated from Iowa to join the team, is now instructing mixed martial arts and grappling classes at the Scottsdale facility.

“I am honored to be an instructor at the Lion’s Den, one of the most respected mixed martial arts training camps in the world. I’m looking forward to working with the fighters and helping them master the skills needed to take their careers to the next level.” states Van Arsdale.

Van Arsdale holds a professional MMA record of eight wins and five losses. His MMA debut came in 1998 when he traveled to Brazil to compete in the no-rules International Vale Tudo Championships, a tournament in which van Arsdale won three consecutive fights in one evening to claim the title. Van Arsdale was also the 1988 NCAA Division 1 Collegiate Wrestling Champion at 167 lb while competing for Iowa Sate University and was inducted into the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Ken Shamrock's Lion's Den Holds Open Tryouts

On Sunday, November 2nd a new breed of MMA champions will be chosen. As part of the Lion's Den Middletown grand opening celebration, MMA Legend Ken Shamrock will be holding open tryouts for the highly anticipated Lion's Den Middletown Elite Fight Team. The tryout's will be open to all experienced, professional mixed martial arts fighters, and will take place in the state of Connecticut at Shamrock's newest MMA training facility. Fighter registration begins at 9:00 am with tryouts commencing at 10:00 am sharp.

The Lion's Den has a reputation as one of the most feared and respected MMA fight team organizations in the world. Elite Team hopefuls often travel from across the United States to compete for a chance to represent the Lion's Den. Those choosing to compete for one of the highly coveted spots better come prepared. Competitors must meet the extremely rigid qualifying standards set by Shamrock to become a member of this elite team of athletes.

"Only fighters that excel in every level of the grueling competition will make the cut. The competition will be tough, our standards are extremely high. Athletes will be required to display their mixed martial arts skills during a series of extremely challenging drills. If they score high enough to avoid early elimination, they will move on to the next round and will eventually compete in multiple live MMA elimination matches. The tryout process is intense, the competitors not only have to have heart, they will have to prove their skills as well", stated Ken Shamrock, MMA Legend and founder of the Lion's Den.

During the tryouts the skills of each fighter will be carefully evaluated by Ken and the Lion's Den Middletown coaches, all champions and proven experts in their discipline. The competitors that are able to meet the high standards set by Shamrock will not only train with the best, they will have the opportunity to put their skills and training to the test in nationwide MMA events as a Lion's Den Elite Team fighter.

Tryouts will be highly competitive and space is limited. Ken Shamrock's Lion's Den Modesto, California's premier Mixed Martial Arts training center is set to open this Fall. This state-of-the-art facility boasts over 12,000 square feet of training area, which includes 4,000 square feet of grappling and striking mat space, a 4,000 square foot free weight and cardio theatre, full circuit training area, a professional raised floor boxing ring and a full size competition cage for mixed martial arts. The Modesto Lion's Den Facility has it all, including a fully stocked MMA apparel store, carrying name brands such as Tap Out, Xtreme Couture and Affliction.

Lion's Den Modesto MMA Classes:

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - Both Gi (training in the traditional kimono) and no-Gi classes are offered. This program is for men, woman and children of all skill levels.

Krav Maga- The most intence of all Martial Arts. Krav Maga is a practical and tactical system which teaches how to prevent and overcome violence and attacks. KM teaches self-defense, self protection, fighting and combat skills, as well as skills to defend others.

Kickboxing – A full body workout that incorporates martial-arts-style kicks and western-boxing-style strikes

Muay Thai - A form of martial arts that uses all parts of the body, including the elbows and knees, for both training and competitions

Grappling - A combination of multiple martial arts with influences from combat submission wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Mixed Martial Arts - MMA classes allow members to put all of their trained disciplines together (Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Muay Thai, and Grappling). Mixed Martial Arts classes are for advanced students that have acquired skills in each individual discipline.

Martial Arts Programs for Children: Lion's Cub classes are for ages 4-8 and Lion's Juniors classes are for ages 9-14. These age-defined programs include Kick Boxing, Grappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Boxing.

Private Lessons: Private Lessons are offered for Kick-boxing and Jiu Jitsu.

Athletes are required to put all of their MMA training to the test against other competitors in this elimination style format. Members of the Elite team will be chosen by Ken Shamrock himself and will compete professionally, while representing the Lion's Den.

The training center is located at 518 Kiernan Ave in Modesto California. Lion's Den Modesto will hold several exciting events during grand opening week. Free submission clinics instructed by Ken Shamrock will be held for local military, firefighters and police officers. In addition, the first annual Lion's Den Modesto Elite Team tryouts will be conducted at the new facility.
