Anderson Silva sent out a short thank you to fans, following his horrific broken-leg injury at UFC 168 against Chris Weidman.

“I want to say thank you to all my fans and friends [for supporting] me at this moment,” he wrote on Twitter. “I wish a great and happy 2014 to all.”

Silva was rushed to into emergency surgery immediately following UFC 168. His surgeon, Dr. Steven Sanders, said he expects the fighter to make a full recovery.

What a great pic. What a relief to see a smile on his face. Wow! What a warrior in the octagon.

You win some you you lose some. Best fighter ever and good to see him smiling

He can’t be the best ever. He was just mauled by weidman twice easily.

This man has been humbled. But even though I’m happy that he is ok and is with his family, for the most part I still remember silva was a villain in my eyes, disrespectful to most of his last opponents, arrogant, and very phony at times. Ultimately I think he came back to fight Weidman, too soon! He was pressured into it by DW, his camp and in that moment of desperation in the octagon when he saw that Weidman was winning again, he kicked too hard, carelessly, and just plain messed up bad. Had he taken his time and dealt with first loss, patiently and took his time, he would have faired better. But I know that Weidman is simply better than him at this point.

You are an idiot but most people are he won the first round clearly look at who was bleeding

      • Manuel Lopez

haha, you’re out of your mind… Silva lost both rounds badly, in the first fight too by the way

      • Kris-tyahn

WOW, who gives a f*** who was bleeding, that doesn’t mean s***. A true educated MMA or fight fan, knows that bleeding or being cut ina fight doesn’t mean jack s***! Especially in this case, Silva was “dominated” in the 1st round of the 2nd fight & Silva couldn’t land any pounches in the 2nd round, he was too slow & Weidman kept moving out of the way from Silva’s punches. The 1st round Silva got cought with a punch behind the ear or near the temple which means trouble. The 2nd round proved Silva was still affected from that 1st round. He was slow, or Weidman is faster than Silva (wink wink). I believe Sonnen spanked Silva for 4.5 rounds in their 1st fight, yet Sonnen looked the worst of the 2 fighters, so does that mean Silva was winning that fight?!? Same goes for GSP, he bruises like a peach. His fight vs. Condit & Diaz he looked much worst than his opponent, but he owned the two of them.
Weidman is to Silva, like Silva was to Franklin & the majority of his opponents. Weidman is a bigger, stronger & better Sonnen with KO power. Which is Silva’s kriptonite. It’s really that simple.

silva is known for not showing damage, you can’t go by that. hendricks vs gsp.

Please tell me you’re joking. You think his way out once he realized he couldn’t win was to kick too hard and break his own leg? Just the “kick too hard” part alone shows how much Muay Thai you’ve actually done in real life.

      • Kris-tyahn

JET: I believe what MANUEL meant with the kicking comment, was that Silva was trying to hard to do damage or got cought up emtionally. Not that he tried to break his own leg b/c he lost the 1st round & couldn’t land much in the 2nd round. He tried too much with the kick, rather than stay focus, land some hard shots, and pick his spots/openings when they were there, he decided to fo for the “homerun” swing & put everything into it, and it cost him.
I think that’s what he meant, that’s how I interpreted his comment.

        • Manuel Lopez

Yes that is what I meant. Tks.

          • JET

That is a less stupid comment, but it’s still pretty silly. A guy can get caught being sloppy if he’s trying over and over again for the homerun with punches, leaving himself open. But plenty of people put everything into leg kicks and don’t pay for it, aside from maybe being taken down or absorbing a counterstrike. In Muay Thai, you’re taught to put a ton of torque on your kicks and kick “through” your opponent as hard as possible, unlike Karate or TKD. Just ask Jose Aldo or Pat Barry. They don’t teach you to leg kick at 70% or you’ll pay. He lit Weidman’s legs up in the first fight with leg kicks that were just as hard. The only difference is Weidman did the mean variation of checking the kick.

I completely agree with the last comment! Should have takin more time to get the hunger to fight back! Not forced to prove it was a fluke! DW doesn’t care about anything but the show going on! On top of having the skill and conditioning to be a UFC top dog , You have to stay hungry to win! So many fighters lose because they start sleeping on silk sheets!

    Godspeed spider, Godspeed..
Merry NewYear to you and to your family :D

  • Big Tuna

Raise those kids…with time not money

    • Kris-tyahn

Or both, hes got plenty of money, might as well spend a lot of time with them, and money so that they can do things 99% of us regular folk can only dream of doing with friends and/or family! But I know what you mean, they want to spend time with him, the person, not by given loads of money & him not be around. I’m just saying, he could do both.

  • JDMMA

Glad to see him doing ok,,, have a speedy recovery !!! he’ll be back for sure,,, might not become a champ again but he’ll show is amazing stand-up few more times and will go out on a win streak
