BJ Penn at UFC 107No one has ever questioned that B.J. Penn wants to go down in the annals of UFC history as one of the best fighters of all time, but there have been moments when his motivation to train and prepare have come into doubt.

Returning from a short-lived retirement to face Rory MacDonald at UFC on Fox 5 on Dec. 8 in Seattle, however, Penn appears to be at the top of his game, even in the training room.

At least, if the training partners he’s hired for this fight are any indication, it appears that Penn couldn’t be any more serious about his Octagon comeback.

A report on Tuesday night’s edition of UFC Tonight revealed that Penn has been working with a number of top welterweights, including UFC fighter Jay Hieron, Strikeforce welterweights Tarec Saffiedine and Tryon Woodley, as well as Strikeforce lightweight title contender Pat Healy and former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson, and, if that wasn’t enough, he’s also working with current Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren.

That’s some serious firepower and a strong indicator that Penn isn’t slacking on his preparation for MacDonald. Of course, the fact that MacDonald is a training partner of Penn’s nemesis, Georges St-Pierre, likely adds a little extra flame to the motivational fire.

B.J. Penn and Rory MacDonald square off as part of the UFC on Fox 5 main card that airs Dec. 8 from Seattle on Fox.

this guy needs to get real serious and go down to his weight at 155.. hes a small welterweight…hes just above the middle of the road at welterweight…he will be.a contender at lightweight…who knows what at featherweight…BJ top ten of all time..just an opinion.. hope he wins

i feel like what was keeping him at ww was frankie being champ, but now that he’s out of the picture at lw i think bj might consider dropping back down. i think we’d all like to see that.

  • I like Rory and all but I hope BJ beats him down. He had no business at all calling him out. War Penn.

How is asking/wanting to fight one of the greats disrespect and being called out? You Penn nut huggers need to get a grip and stop crying every time some wants to fight BJ. Give me a quote that Rory “called” out BJ? Have fun looking for one!

      • flampoo

        Who said anything about respect?

      • flampoo

Oh, also… here’s the “call out” that happened. It was mutual.

        • Please follow me on facebook and twitter. I like fans like you who know what their talking about.

      • Well first off I’m not a nut hugger. Second BJ was retired when Rory called him out. If he wasn’t retired then I could understand but why call out a guy who already accomplished so much and just got done fighting Nick Diaz and taking much needed time away from the sport.

    • King_DG

agreed! Sadly though Penn’s welterweight record has not been well. Hopefully he finishes this fight quickly

  • Joe

BJ is one of my all time favorites, I just hope that the early BJ shows up, not the one we have seen in the last few fights

  • ceo

I don’t think this fight will happen. I have a feeling Penn will find a way to back out.

    • King_DG

yeah because Penn always backs out of fights right?!

  • Chuck

    LOL! +1 ^

  • djglsjlkfs

Greatest of all time. LMAO who has he even beaten. his record is a joke. Most of the ufc records are ridiculously pathetic for people who are considered greats. JBJ JDS silva gsp, aldo and a few more have good records but most of the so called greats and legends have horrible records

    • Drock420

GOAT maybe because while he had the lightweight belt he moved up to fight and BEAT the welterweight champ at the time being Matt Hughes. Who else has held 2 UFC belts in 2 different weight classes???

      • Barry_good

You know he never had both at the same time. He won the WW before the LW. He lost the chance for it against Jens and then a draw with Uno for it in 2002-3. And Randy Couture has held the title in 2 different classes as well.

I hope bj destroys rory that kid is lame a ****,and thinks he is hot **** just cuz he out wrestled Nate Diaz, ever since that fight everyone thinks he is the next big thing, the truth is BJ PENN is gunna put him back in his place, and after Bj might just end up fighting GSP again.
