by Ken Pishna – MMAWeekly.com Ulysses Gomez on Tuesday was forced to withdraw from Bellator’s bantamweight tournament due to a staph infection. Just 24 hours later and the promotion has already moved to keep the tournament intact.

Sources close to the fighters say that Bryan Goldsby was pulled from his fight with Nick Mamalis at Thursday’s Bellator 29 and will step in for Gomez to face Zach Makovsky in the semifinals on a future card.

Goldsby lost a unanimous decision to Ed West in the tournament’s opening round.

As a result, Jameel Massouh will move from the local fight card into a feature fight against Mamalis at Bellator 29. The two are expected to meet at a catchweight of 140 pounds.

Massouh’s original Bellator 29 opponent, Kyle Dietz, is the odd man out. He will be left off of Thursday’s fight card without enough time to find a suitable replacement.
