The Boston area will host the next round of the Bellator Fighting Championships lightweight tournament, which will include a showdown between former UFC fighter Roger Huerta and the fighter who scored a vicious KO in his first round match-up, Pat Curran.
The bouts for the next round of the 155lb tournament were announced on Tuesday, with Toby Imada taking on Carey Vanier in the other semifinal match-up.
Huerta made his way to the next round of the tournament with a slick kneebar victory over Chad Hinton. His opponent, Pat Curran made the rounds last week after a thunderous knockout of previously undefeated fighter Mike Ricci.
Last year’s runner-up in the lightweight tournament, Toby Imada put on a dominant performance over James Krause to make it to the next round of the tournament, while Carey Vanier took out former “Ultimate Fighter” competitor Joe Duarte to get to the semifinals.
The card in Boston will also feature a catchweight superfight pitting current Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez against former UFC fighter Josh Neer in a 160lb contest.
“As a fan, I can’t wait for our May 6th show in Boston,” said Bjorn Rebney, CEO of Bellator. “Alvarez vs. Neer should be explosive, with Eddie making his first appearance in the U.S. since he won our lightweight title last summer. Huerta vs. Curran just got really interesting coming off of Pat’s one punch KO of previously undefeated Mike Ricci. Toby’s world class submission wrestling vs. Carey’s world class wresting should be a great fight as well.”
The show will take place on May 6 from Boston’s Wang Theatre.
