Industry sources tell MMAWeekly.com that Bellator 35 debuted on MTV2 on Saturday night to an initial average audience of 200,000 viewers in its 9 p.m. ET time slot. The show drew another 127,000 viewers in a repeat performance at 11 p.m. ET.
The ratings for the initial live slot accounted for an increase in the network’s key advertising demographics. Bellator 35 reflected an 83 percent increase in Men 18-49, 80 percent in Men 18-34, and a whopping 133 percent in Men 25-34.
Bellator’s ratings for its MTV2 premier gave the network its best time period performance among the Men 25-34 demographic in a year, and the highest in the Men 18-49 demographic since October 2010.
The move to MTV2 finally gives Bellator a consistent presence on television. The promotion was on Fox Sports Net for Season 3, where it was consistently pre-empted for regional sports programming, making it extremely difficult to gain any sort of traction on television.
