Jessica AguilarBellator MMA has released strawweight Jessica Aguilar and flyweight Jessica Eye, effectively killing off the women’s side of the sport in the promotion.

Both fighters confirmed the news on Tuesday via Twitter.

The news comes on the heels of the announcement that former Bellator women’s strawweight Felice Herrig has inked a new multi-fight deal with Invicta FC.

Former Bellator fighter and women’s MMA pioneer Megumi Fujii also recently announced that she would retire following an Oct. 5 bout in Japan.

Aguilar (15-4) is currently on a six-fight winning streak. She last competed at Bellator 94 on March 28, defeating Patricia Vidonic by split decision.

Eye (10-1) last competed on June 1, defeating Carina Damm by unanimous decision. She is currently on a seven-fight winning streak.

With the recent releases, Bellator MMA no longer has female fighters on its roster.

Given that both fighters are on long win streaks, the title here should be “Bellator abolishes women’s division”.

You sure? I dunno, because UFC for women is in danger of turning into a cartoon. The increasingly annoying “Rousey / Tate” rivalry is no longer interesting, because rousey is now a prisoner of the character she developed. SHe doesn’t even want to watch her own reality show when it premiers. Invicta is an all-biatch fight league, and it should be allowed to grow, because treats the girls like real fighting girls, not “potential media superstars” like Fox / UFC does.
