Bellator has set the stage for their season 5 bantamweight tournament and it includes the entrance of featherweight champion Joe Warren as he looks to add another title to his trophy case.
Warren is one of 8 fighters entering the tournament kicking off on Sept 24, with the winner of the tournament getting a crack at current Bellator champion Zach Makovsky.
Bellator’s reigning featherweight champion still has a fight to go before he gets to enter the tournament because he’s currently set to defend his 145lb belt against Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire on July 23.
For his first round match-up in the Bellator bantamweight tournament, Warren will draw Olympic bronze medalist in wrestling Alexis Vila.
Also on tap for the first round of the tournament will be former Bellator featherweight champion Joe Soto making his move to 135lbs and faces Eduardo Dantas.
Ed West faces Luiz Nogueira, while former WEC bantamweight champion Chase Beebe squares off against Marcos Galvao.
“To say our Season Five Bantamweight tournament is stacked is a gross understatement,” said Bellator Chairman & CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Warren-Vila is going to be absolutely explosive for as long as it lasts, and the inclusion of Dantas, Nogueira, Chase, Soto, Ed and Luis makes every single fight in this tournament a pick’em adventure. This should be an unbelievable tournament for our fans watching live on MTV2.”
The tournament kicks off on Sept 24 and will air on MTV2.
