Bellator 82 Results: Koreshkov Downs Good to Win Welterweight Tournament

Posted on by MMAWeekly.com Staff

Bellator 82 weigh-inAs Bellator closes down their last season of action before moving to Spike TV, they have crowned another welterweight tournament winner in Russian Andrey Koreshkov.

Koreshkov faced former Bellator champion Lyman Good, who was hoping to secure a spot back in a title fight against Ben Askren, who took the title from him six fights ago.

Unfortunately for Good he will have to go back through another tournament if he hopes to stake his claim to a title shot because Koreshkov was able to slip through with a unanimous decision victory after a back and forth fight through three rounds.

Koreshkov was able to keep Good off balance for the majority of both rounds one and three, landing a nasty uppercut in the first stanza and a solid takedown to control the action in the final five minutes.

When it was over, Koreshkov stood tall as the latest welterweight tournament winner, who now awaits a clogged 170lb title picture to clear up once 2013 begins. Champion Ben Askren must first face last season’s tournament winner Karl Ammousou, and then Koreshkov will be in line for a shot at the belt.

In other action at Bellator 82, former WEC champion Doug Marshall survived a 22 second slugfest with former Elite XC fighter Kala Hose. The two competitors came out swinging with everything they had, but when it was done Marshall was the man left standing.

It marks Hose’s fourth loss in a row and his first fight after more than two years of inactivity.

On the preliminary card, highly touted prospect and former wrestling phenom Shawn Bunch made his MMA debut with a unanimous decision victory to kick off his career.
