At Bellator 60 on Friday night, the upstart promotion crowned a new featherweight champion as Pat Curran knocked out Joe Warren to capture the belt.

Curran and Warren fought two hard, back and forth rounds, before the fight came to an abrupt close in the third.

Connecting with a big knee strike, Curran followed up with a barrage of punches against a stunned Joe Warren against the cage.

The video below shows the final knockout, but not the excessive shots that Warren took when the referee refused to step in and stop the fight. Warren took a number of blows that seemed just unnecessary due to the referee’s poor judgment in the fight.

Here is the final result however with some of the excessive shots cut out:

Why bitch about the ref allowing too many strikes, then show an edited video? Why not just show it as it happened to make your point?

  • This is a video that Bellator released Pooby. The point is the excessive stuff was cut out, which is why we noted it in the article.

Ok, got it. That makes more sense, but I think it’s dumb for Bellator to edit their own fight videos.

Yeah it was definitely a poor ref job. I think these refs need to be fined for poor decisions like that. “Fighter safety is alway the main concern.” That’s what we here all the time. These refs have to be trained on rules regulations, and safety and judgement. Impose fines for early and late stoppages, it may fix the problem some of the time.

I don’t know if imposing a monetary fine on a ref would be the right thing to do.
I think that maybe a suspension would effectively hit their wallet just the same and still let these guys know they need to pay better attention to what is going on and be consistent.

  • Fine or suspend them for late stoppages and you’ll get early stoppages. I know its easy for me to say when I’m not the one in there getting my face beat in but I’d rather the refs err on the side of stopping it a little late than to stop it early and rob a guy who could have won.
