The Canadian fans in Vancouver are in for an instant classic when two of the toughest strikers in the sport meet up in a heavyweight contest when Pat “HD” Barry returns to action to face Dutch powerhouse, Gilbert Yvel, at UFC 115 on June 15.
The fight was originally reported by the Las Vegas Sun and has been confirmed by independent sources to MMAWeekly.com on Thursday.
Coming off of a double bonus night in October, Pat Barry (5-1) looks to continue the pace he kept in his last fight against Antoni Hardonk when he faces yet another top notch striker.
The Duke Roufus trained fighter is currently 2-1 in the UFC, steadily improving with each fight, and testing himself against another veteran fighter will push Barry even further in the heavyweight division.
Following a long career all over the world, Gilbert Yvel (36-14-1) finally made his debut in the UFC in January, but the fight didn’t go the way he was hoping. Yvel lost by TKO to rising Brazilian star, Junior Dos Santos, at UFC 108, but looks to bounce back in June.
Both Barry and Yvel have long standing ties to the stand-up game, and this bout has fireworks written all over it. It’s believed that the fight between Barry and Yvel will make the main card for the pay-per-view broadcast.
The event in Vancouver still hasn’t officially been announced by the UFC, but rumors have “Ultimate Fighter” coaches Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz squaring off for the third time in the main event for the show.
