The Arizona State University wrestling program has become famous not only for producing top level collegiate wrestlers, but also for the great number of former alumni moving into the sport of mixed martial arts.
From Oct. 22 to Oct. 25, ASU will honor many of their former top greats during the ASU Wrestling Alumni weekend featuring current UFC fighters Ryan Bader, Cain Velasquez and C.B. Dollaway, along with former UFC legend Dan “The Beast” Severn.
The festivities kick off on Wednesday, Oct. 22 when the Library Bar and Grill hosts an “Ultimate Fighter” party where fans can sit and watch the latest episode of the reality show with Ryan Bader, who participates in this season, and former ASU teammates Cain Velasquez and C.B. Dollaway, who will also be in attendance.
Dan Severn will be honored on Friday night at the Phoenix RoadRunners hockey game where the UFC legend will drop the first puck and meet fans at the event. The 2007 and 2008 Arizona State wrestling teams will also be honored at the game for their contributions to Wilson Schools this past month.
On Saturday, Oct. 25, the ASU wrestling program will hold “wrestle-offs” to help new athletes earn their way into a starting position with the team and they will be coached by former All-Americans Ryan Bader and C.B. Dollaway.
The last event of the weekend will be a tailgate party prior to Arizona State’s football team taking the field. The event will be held from 5 p.m. till kickoff.
The Alumni tailgate will be held in the North Reserve parking lot spots 1075 to 1077, which is about 100ft south of the intersection of Rio Salado Parkway and Packard Drive.
