Anthony JohnsonAnthony “Rumble” Johnson recently made his return to the Octagon, and he’s not slowing down. Johnson already has his next fight booked.

UFC officials on Thursday announced that Johnson would make his next start against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC on FOX 12 on July 26 in San Jose, Calif.

Johnson (17-4) was cut loose from the UFC in early 2012 after having issues making weight on several occasions. Following his expulsion, Johnson put together a six-fight winning streak, knocking out four of his six opponents.

Following his success, coupled with Johnson having given up on lower weight classes and making a move to light heavyweight, the UFC decided to give him another chance.

Johnson returned to the promotion at UFC 172, where he dominated Phil Davis en route to a three-round unanimous-decision victory, increasing his winning streak to seven bouts.

He didn’t hesitate in lining up his next trip to the Octagon, and will face Nogueira in July.

For Nogueira (21-5), the fight also represents his return to the Octagon. He hasn’t been fighting elsewhere; he just hasn’t been fight.

Following back-to-back victories over Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans, Nogueira has spent the past year and a half dealing with lingering back issues. He had been on the cusp of putting his name into title contention, but his back troubles nixed a bout with Alexander Gustafsson. He will be looking for a return to form when he faces Johnson.

Johnson vs. Nogueira is the first bout confirmed for the UFC on FOX 12 fight card.

    I smell violence.

that sweet, one-sided kind of violence.

guess they wanna groom rumble some more before throwing him into a contender fight. at least nog is coming off a win, albeit a miserable one.

  • Seth

Ok, so now seriously – who will Rumble fight? We know Lil Nog will not make it to the fight anyway.

    • TheCerealKiller

Rashad doesn’t have anything lined up. I wouldn’t mind that. I know they’re both Blackzilians, but there isn’t much of anyone else right now for him to fight?

      • Seth

Well…its kinda same situation with Davis before Rumble fight? All guys are either sidelined or booked, so they will give him whoever is available, since there isn’t much free agents out there to be signed and put against someone who just destroyed #4 LHW. So I guess you are right and Rashad will get a call in a few days, when Lil Nog stub his toe or something

Tiki Barber never said he would play against his brother Ronde Barber. In fact, he did run him over a few times.

That whole “friendship” thing is a bs to begin with. Guys like Cerrone and Melvin are example of how you should act. You check your emotions and feelings at the door, when you get to fight. They are PAID to fight. It’s their WORK. Imagine yourself going to work and saying “Nah, Im not gonna work today with him because I like him”. They are either scared of fighting someone who knows them so good, or they are scared because they know they would lose anyway. That applies to Rory and GSP. It applies to Machida and Anderson. It applies to any other “friendship couple” that declined to fight each other. Yes. I include DC that ran away from HW division instead of fighting Cain. He’s small HW, I get it. He’s size is better for LHW – ok. I understand. But he was same size when he beat Barnett and Bigfoot. He was same size when he beat everyone else at HW. So he was a tough, tough dude at HW, beating everyone. Yet he ran away before they had a chance to offer him that fight (or ran when they did offer him that fight). That doesn’t mean he isn’t great fighter thou, don’t make mistake about it – I see him as a elite guy. He’s just scared of fighting another badass dude who could f him up easily at will.

  • Mamma says choke u out

Should b a nice opening bout for ufc on fox lil nog will choke him out in first round anytime u doubt the nog bro they always win

    • Lt. Dangle

Nog won’t be able to get him down. This will end similar to Big Nog vs Big Country.

    • TheCerealKiller

      You’re living in the past.

  • asdj

Nog brothers need to retire. They have too many injuries to hang with the top level of MMA. Rumble is going to take it.

  • drkdisciple

This is an easier fight then Phil Davis. Its like the ufc is making him take a step back.

    • TheCerealKiller

There’s no one for him to fight in the near future.

      • drkdisciple

        good point!

  • Yeeeep

Anthony Johnson is overrated. True he looks like a monster now.. it crazy to know he use to fight in 170.. and got out wrestled, and choked out by freaking koscheck… but i call it an upset. Little nog by submission. Johnson always looked horrible in submission. Vitor proved that.
