Anthony Johnson was scheduled to headline World Series of Fighting 5 on Sept. 14 in Atlantic City, N.J., squaring off with fellow UFC veteran Mike Kyle, but he has been forced out of the bout due to injury.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski has already agreed to step in and take his place. WSOF executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz confirmed the change to MMAWeekly.com. It was first reported by MMAFighting.com.
The bout could end up being a bit of redemption for Arlovski (19-10, 1 NC), should he win.
Arlovski had won four of his last five bouts (four wins and one no contest). His run of success was disrupted by Johnson, who won a unanimous decision victory over the Belarusian in the World Series of Fighting 2 main event.
Kyle (20-9-1, 2 NC) enters the fight with a victory over fellow-UFC veteran Travis Wiuff at CFA 11 in May. He should be brimming with confidence, having knocked Wiuff out a mere 21 seconds into the fight.
