01 Overeem vs Lesnar UFC 141_9649Heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Travis Browne will meet on the UFC on Fox Sports 1 fight card on Aug. 17 in Boston.

MMAWeekly.com confirmed the match-up – first reported by MMAJunkie.com – through independent sources.

Overeem (36-12-1) was originally scheduled to face Junior dos Santos on this weekend’s UFC 160 fight card in Las Vegas, but was forced out of the bout due to an injury suffered in training.

He was then expected to return to action at UFC 164 on Aug. 31 in Milwaukee.  The former Strikeforce and K-1 champion tweeted on May 16, “Training hard and looking forward to aug 31!”

His return has since been bumped up two weeks to the Aug. 17 date.

The Dutch-British striker had an 11-fight winning streak snapped in his last outing, losing to Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva by knockout on Feb. 2 at UFC 156.

Browne (14-1-1) bounced back from the first loss of his career – also to Silva in his last fight – by knocking out Gabriel Gonzaga in the first round of their The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale bout on April 13.

The UFC’s debut event on Fox Sports 1 coincides with the network’s official launch.  It takes place at the TD Garden in Boston.

While Overeem vs. Browne is a match-up worthy of main event status on most fight cards, UFC official are soon expected to announce an even bigger bout to headline n Fox Sports 1.

Boys will be swinging in this one…

    • Ian Price

Travis should take his one. He has a chin; overeem doesn’t

      • julian moran

        Overeem however has more power.

        • Kris-tyahn

Yeah, but KO power is KO power. Browne can & will KTFO out of OVereem if he doesn’t improve 100 times better, than he looked in his last fight.

you’re speaking out of pure dislike for overeem, he was in control of that fight until he gassed thats the reality of it and as a result he started dropping his hands and got popped. wouldnt be a stretch to say he was fairly cocky during the fight but up until that point he did a good job at keeping his hands up and not getting popped and he is pretty good at it as well hence how he won a k1 title.

Can’t complain about this fight. Makes sense for both guys.

Love this Fight. Good Job Joe Silva. Now do Mir vs. Barnett, and get Todd Duffee some action, maybe against The Hulk?

    • drkdisciple

What does Barnett have to gain by fighting washed up Mir?

      • bajafox

Who knows? Maybe go up the rankings?

        • dathump

or go down, Barnett has wins against some has beens and some never will bes. The chances of him submitting Mir are slim. Maybe the only thing he has to gain is prove he can fight a mid level fighter and not test positive for roids.

          • fsunoles10

yall act like mir has nothing left, other than being held up against the cage i thought i seen a bit of growth in his striking with the spinning s**t and all.hah but i still think mir is a legit heavyweight and can still get it done to a degree, i dont think barnett is leaps and bounds ahead of him by no means.

    • julian moran

Mir vs Barnett, it has to happen.

  • Cptmats

So Travis Brown gets to KO Overoid next ?

    • julian moran

Not if Overeem comes in shape.

      • Cptmats

Yeh even if he is in shape !
There’s no conditioning for a glass jaw !

        • fsunoles10

up to the point of fighting bigfoot he was doing a great job at keeping his chin tucked and hands up so i think he will for sure be back to that this fight. i mean lets be honest he was in control that of silva up until he was noticeably gassed.

          • Cptmats

“up to the point of fighting bigfoot he was doing a great job at keeping his chin tucked and hands up”
Against who ? last decent striker he face was Cro-cop five years ago, Hunt before that who dropped him in the first seconds and Shogun who KO’ed him in the last Pride fc.

Overeem’s striking is seriously over rated, he won his K-1 tittle long after kickboxing had died !
There were prob better amateur kick boxers in the late ninety than the guys Overeem beat in K-1

    • Kris-tyahn

I was thinking the EXACT same thing. Overeem isn’t aloud of his TRT anymore, unless they allow him in Boston. But Nevada will not allow him TRT treatment, hence why he got embaressed by Big Foot!

  • julian moran

    I like this fight.

    • Cptmats

Not sure what it is with you and Overeem ? The guys a joke !
I would take Mighty Mouse or even Miesha Tate over Him !
      No Offence

  • Milos Rackovic

Browne is probably afraid of Overeem

  • solo

I cant believe that Bigfoot beat this two fighters!

  • tspoon88

The winner of this should get the loser of JDS vs Hunt. This can be Browne’s big break. I just hope Overeem actually respects his opponents striking this time.
