Houston Alexander will return to Ultimate Fighting Championship action on April 2. MMAWeekly.com has confirmed with sources close to the fight that he will face James Irvin as a part of the main card of the upcoming UFC Fight Night leading into the seventh installment of “The Ultimate Fighter.”
The bout was originally slated to be a part of a possible March 8 card in the United Kingdom, but that event never came to fruition. Now many of the fighters who expected to be on that card are being scheduled to other events.
Houston Alexander is coming off of the first loss of his UFC career at the hands of Thiago Silva by TKO at UFC 78 in New Jersey.
James Irvin will step into this fight with Alexander following a win at UFC 79 by disqualification after his opponent, Luis Cane, kneed Irvin illegally while he was on the ground.
No word has come from the UFC as to what may happen with the other fights that were tentatively part of the March 8, including Michael Bisping’s middleweight debut against American Top Team middleweight Charles McCarthy.
As previously stated, the fight between Alexander and Irvin will be on the main card for the show featuring a main event bout between lightweights Kenny Florian and Joe Lauzon in Broomfield, Colo.
