ACF Releases Full Fight Card for Friday’s Genesis Show
DENVER, COLORADO – This Friday night, February 24 at the Denver Coliseum, local veteran fighter John Cronk steps into the cage to face former U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman Wrestling team member Heath Sims for the first ever American Championship Fighting (ACF) mixed martial arts welterweight world title.
Cronk and Sims are the main event of a full night of mixed martial arts action that also features Matt Horwich vs. Rob Wince, Chilo Gonzalez vs. Shawn Freese, Donald Cerrone vs. Cruz Chacon, Noah Thomas vs. Grant Hartwig, two more professional bouts and three amateur undercard fights.
A veteran of more than 25 mixed martial arts bouts and a multiple-time kickboxing champion, John Cronk has had an up and down career, but won four of his past five bouts en route to the ACF title shot. Having fought on fight promotions throughout the world, including Brazil and Japan, he is looking to take the belt in front of his hometown fans.
With10 bouts to his credit, Sims has much less experience in mixed martial arts than Cronk, but has faced many world-class competitors in wrestling competition. A member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling squad in Sydney, Australia, and trained by Dan Henderson of Team Quest, he has fought half of his mixed martial arts matches in Japan’s revered Pancrase organization. Sims is looking to win the title and establish himself as a force in America.
Matt Horwich is considered one of the rising new stars in the light heavyweight division. He has won 11 of his last 14 fights including an impressive submission victory over Lion’s Den fighter Vernon “Tiger” White. Like Sims, he is a Team Quest fighter and mixes their patented ground and pound style with a strong base in Brazilian Jiujitsu.
Facing Horwich is Rob Wince who fights out of Mark Coleman’s Hammer House. Though he lost his most recent bout, Wince, a former professional bull rider, won his three previous fights and is looking to get back on track with a win over Horwich.
At one time, Chilo Gonzalez was on the fast track to dominance, but somewhere along the way, he got sidetracked. Now, he looks to re-establish himself against Texan Shawn Freese. With a renewed training regimen and rededication to his fighting career, Gonzalez is a force to be reckoned with, but Freese isn’t one to back down from a challenge.
Local fan favorite, kickboxer-turned-MMA fighter Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone won his MMA debut in 1:12 with a triangle choke and has never lost a fight, neither kickboxing nor MMA. He steps up against another local favorite in Cruz “The Saint” Chacon who has had a rough go of it recently. Chacon has faced some very tough fighters and typically on short notice, so he is looking to try and turn things around against Cerrone.
Winning 6 of his last 8 fights, Ft. Collins, Colorado fighter Noah Thomas dropped a decision in his most recent bout and attempts to rekindle a bright future as he is set to face jiujitsu stylist Grant Hartwig from Kansas City, Missouri.
In addition to a full fight card, fans will note that Jeremy Horn, Dan Henderson, Wes Sims, and Ryan Schultz will all be in attendance working the corner of various fighters.
