Canadian middleweight, Denis Kang, will make his return to the Octagon a little closer to home for his next fight as he will take on UFC newcomer, Xavier Foupa-Pokam, at UFC 97 in Montreal on April 18. The fight was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fighter's camp on Friday.

After spending years fighting overseas in promotions like Pride, Denis Kang was excited at the prospect of competing closer to home and signing with the UFC gave the veteran competitor a chance to go against some of the best middleweights in the world.

A strong performance followed Kang in his first fight against Alan Belcher at UFC 93 in Ireland, but a mistake late in the 2nd round resulted in the Canadian being caught in a guillotine choke forcing the submission.

Kang looks for redemption, as he will have the opportunity to fight in Montreal, the city he has trained in for his past few fights working alongside UFC welterweight champion, Georges St. Pierre.

Xavier Foupa-Pokam steps in for his UFC debut with a 20-9 professional record and experience fighting in promotions like Cage Rage, Jungle Fight and most recently with Palace Fighting Championships in California.

His last fight resulted in a win as he knocked out veteran fighter, Kyacey Uscola, with a flying knee strike in the first round of their match-up.

It's unknown at this time if the bout between Kang and Foupa-Pokam will be featured on the main card or untelevised portion of the show. The April 18 show will be the second go round for the UFC in Montreal after the promotion had a successful debut there in April 2008.
