- DEMIAN MAIA VS. NATE QUARRY AT UFC 91
Thursday, September 18, 2008 - by Damon Martin - MMAWeekly.com

The upcoming Ultimate Fighting Championship card for Nov 15 continues to add on top fights as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace, Demian Maia, will take on former “Ultimate Fighter” season 1 competitor, Nate Quarry, in a middleweight match-up.
The information comes from Maia himself in an interview with Tatame.com.
Maia has been nothing less than dominant since making his debut in the UFC, pulling off 3 straight submission wins, most recently defeating Jason MacDonald at UFC 87 in August.
Long thought of as one of the best submission fighters to step in the Octagon, Maia continues to work on his other skills to match up to his tremendous pedigree on the ground.
“I didn’t study his fights yet, I’ll receive a DVD with his fights, but I only watch my opponents’ fights when the fight gets closer,” said Maia in the interview with Tatame.com. “I’m training a lot (of) my stand up game like for the last fight, but every time I can I do some BJJ trainings”
Maia also disclosed in the interview that he helped Frank Mir as an assistance coach during the latest season of the “Ultimate Fighter” on Spike TV.
Nate Quarry steps into the fight after a victory over Kalib Starnes at UFC 83 that saw former top middleweight contender chase his opponent around the cage for the better part of three rounds trying to engage him. Quarry got the unanimous decision win, while Starnes got released from the UFC.
Maia and Quarry will serve as part of the undercard for the main event pitting heavyweight champion Randy Couture against Brock Lesnar.
