- RICARDO FUNCH BECOMES NEW XFC CHAMP
Tuesday, June 17, 2008 - by MMAWeekly.com Staff

Undefeated Team Link fighter Ricardo Funch kept his perfect record intact recently by defeating Anthony “TJ” Waldburger in Austin, Tex. during a fight that saw Funch crowned the new welterweight champion of the Xtreme Fight Championship.

Funch, who had primarily competed in the World Fighting League before this bout, came in as an underdog to Waldburger, who most recently competed in HDNet Fights in October 2007.

Despite a Texas crowd pulling for their home state fighter, Waldburger, it was Funch who survived a back and forth first round before unleashing some devastating ground and pound in the second session to pull off the win.

“First I would like to say thanks to God and then thanks everyone that is making this dream come true,” said Funch. “To all from Team Link, that is the best thing that has happened in my life. I have the chance to train with six BJJ (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) black belts all day, Marco Alvan, Gabriel Gonzaga, Alexander "Vaca" Moreno, Gabriel Gladiator, Marcos “Santa Cruz” and Eric Tavares. I also have my teammates helping daily like Karen Grigoryan, the Manley's brothers, Jeremy Ross and my strength and conditioning coach Phil Dixon. Thanks guys without you it would not be possible.”

Now sitting with a 6-0 professional record, Funch will look to step up in competition as he competes as champion for the XFC.
