- NATE MOHR SUFFERS TORN LIGAMENT
Friday, January 04, 2008 - by Al Yu - MMAWeekly.com

Nate Mohr sustained a knee injury last weekend during his fight against Manny Gamburyan at Ultimate Fighting Championship 79 in Las Vegas.
At first glance, it appeared that Mohr succumbed to Gamburyan’s ankle lock attempt. However, it was later revealed that a torn posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in his knee ended his evening prematurely.
"He was no threat to my ankle at all. I have spent a lot of time on foot locks since my fight with Kurt [Pellegrino],” explained Mohr. “I saw an opening and I was getting ready to throw some hard shots to his face. As I sat up, he made a small adjustment and my knee just popped. I screamed at first reaction and the ref stopped it. I never tapped. I will do my rehab, rest it up and be back in the mix.”
He received an MRI on his knee on Thursday. The doctor confirmed that he tore his PCL, but won’t know the severity of his injury until the MRI results are available early next week.
“I spent ample time working with Nate even days before the fight on different defenses for different leg attacks. Fact is, Nate did everything right. He just got a bum deal,” commented Jeff Curran, Mohr’s teammate and Jiu-Jitsu coach.
“I feel so bad for Nate because he works harder than anyone and is super talented. I am just so glad that he is young and can take time to heal his knee. The injury that he suffered was exactly the same that would happen if Nate was caught in a straight knee bar. After the fight, we were told at the emergency room that it was a tear."
"The worst thing about this fight, other than the knee injury itself, is that fans and other fighters are thinking that Nate has problems with defending leg locks and ankle locks,” continued Curran. “But the truth is Manny was 100% attacking his ankle when Nate’s knee popped. You can even ask Manny. It was a complete accident and I can't stress that enough.”
The Team Curran fighter has already started his rehabilitation and eagerly looks forward to healing up and getting back into the Octagon. “I am staying positive about everything and just wanted to say I am sorry for the way the fight went, said Mohr. “Accidents happen.”
