- JARDINE NOT LIKELY TO RETURN UNTIL 2008
Thursday, October 04, 2007 - by Damon Martin - MMAWeekly.com

When Keith Jardine defeated Chuck Liddell, he not only handed for the former champion a decisive loss, he also put himself at the top of the food chain in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s light heavyweight division.
While many fights could be on the horizon for Jardine, fans are not likely to see him again in 2007.
“I’m thinking January, the early part of the year would be a good time,” said Jardine about the ideal time for his next fight.
Jardine, the #7-ranked light heavyweight in the MMAWeekly World MMA Rankings, also stated that because not many of his teammates at Greg Jackson’s gym in Albuquerque, N.M. are preparing for fights right now, he plans to take some time off before heading back into training.
Unless something changes to alter that timeline, Jardine would be out of the running as a possible opponent for Wanderlei Silva’s rumored debut on Dec. 29 at UFC 79 in Las Vegas.
Never one to back down from a challenge, his main focus is to fight the top talent in the growing light heavyweight division. Of course, a title shot would please him as well.
“I’ll fight whoever, but I want to fight the best guys,” Jardine said. “I’m not holding my breath, but I’d love the opportunity to fight Quinton Jackson, but anybody from the top down.”
Currently, the UFC is looking towards England once again with a show in January and a follow-up back in the U.S. on Super Bowl weekend in early February that could potentially be the biggest show of the year.
With the win over Liddell, it is anticipated that Jardine’s next bout could also be another headliner. Current rumblings have UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture penciled in for Super Bowl weekend, so a show in the United Kingdom in January could be a perfect place for the light heavyweight contender to fight next.
