Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Din Thomas is out of action due to a serious knee injury suffered in his submission loss to Kenny Florian at Sept. 19’s UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas according to Dean Albrecht, a member of his business management team.

Thomas appeared to suffer the knee injury when shooting in for an unsuccessful wrestling takedown on Florian. Moments later, Florian was on his back peppering him with punches and then locking in a rear naked choke for the submission.

Results from an MRI showed that Thomas suffered a torn meniscus, stretched anterior cruciate ligament, and bruised femur and tibia.

Albrecht indicated that Thomas is going to see a knee specialist in Atlanta next week. He will likely have arthroscopic surgery performed within the next two weeks.

Following the surgery, Thomas will have to undergo at least two weeks of rehabilitation before he will be able to resume training. A return to competition will still be much further down the road. It is likely to be at least four months before Thomas can fight again.

When he is able to fight again, Thomas, who had been on a three-fight winning streak, indicated that he would like a rematch with Florian.
