Undefeated lightweight Thiago Tavares confirmed that he will face Tyson Griffin at UFC 76 in Anaheim, Calif. Tavares made many new fans in his last outing, displaying his impressive ground prowess en route to defeating Jason Black via triangle choke. Now the Brazilian prospect will face arguably his toughest opponent to date in Griffin.

”He's [Griffin] a great fighter and very complete. He's very strong and doesn’t make a lot of mistakes in his fights. I believe it will be a great fight for MMA fans,” said the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo black belt. ”My training is going very well. I'm training boxing and Muay Thai; I want to show the American people that my Muay Thai is as good as my Jiu-Jitsu.”

Following their recent championship bout, Hermes Franca and Sean Sherk tested positive for steroids. The news shocked many fans and caused a bit of uncertainty in the busy UFC 155-pound weight class. ”It's difficult for me to give an opinion about it because I've never used this kind of substance,” commented Tavares. “If it's forbidden to use something like that and an athlete uses it, he must be penalized. I believe that with due penalty, the use of these drugs will reduce.”

The UFC lightweight division is the deepest it has ever been. A win over Tyson Griffin could put Tavares into title contention.

”I have won twice in UFC and hopefully this will be my third. I personally feel that I'm able to win the title. Depending on my next fight, I think there may be a chance. I would be very honored to fight for the title.”
