- BELLATOR ANNOUNCES FINAL TWO WELTERWEIGHTS FOR TOURNEY
Wednesday, February 24, 2010 - by Damon Martin - MMAWeekly.com

Bellator Fighting Championships announced on Wednesday the final two participants in their upcoming welterweight tournament slated to begin in the next few months with Brett Cooper and Ryan Thomas filling the final spots.

Brett Cooper (10-5) makes his move to Bellator after working with several promotions during his career, including a fight with the now defunct Affliction show in 2009.

Training with MFC champion, Antonio McKee, Cooper has well rounded skills, and hopes to make an impact in the tournament with the eventual winner getting a shot at current Bellator welterweight champ, Lyman Good.

Former UFC fighter, Ryan Thomas (10-3), debuts with Bellator for the upcoming tournament to face off with some of the best up and coming welterweights in the sport.

After dropping back-to-back fights to Ben Saunders and Matt Brown in the UFC, Thomas was released by the organization, but bounced back strong with a triangle choke win over Ryan Stout last August.

The tournament pairings for the Bellator welterweight division have not been named yet, but now all 8 fighters have been named. Alongside Cooper and Thomas will be Dan Hornbuckle, Jacob McClintock, Ben Askren, Jim Wallhead, Steve Carl, and Sean Pierson.
